Na Hyun (Vivian) Koo (강나현)

ATCL, BMus (Hons in Composition), Grad. Dip. Arts, MMusTher, RMT

Vivian is a piano tutor and a registered music therapist located in Yeronga, Brisbane. She studied ATCL in piano performance (Trinity), BMus (Hons in Composition) and Graduate Diploma in Arts at The University of Auckland in New Zealand. She then went on to study Master of Music Therapy at The New Zealand School of Music.

Since 2000, she has been teaching students of all ages including children, adolescents and adults, from varying cultural backgrounds. She has helped students to pass grade exams as well as those who were absolute beginners, or those who wished to try learning the piano again as adults. So far in Australia, all of her students who participated in AMEB exams have achieved excellent results.

Vivian is also a registered music therapist who has experience in working with people of all ages with special needs. She has worked with many neurodivergent children and adults including autism, downs syndrome, developmental delay and other conditions in music therapy centers, schools and in private practice, as well as the elderly with dementia at residential care settings. Some of the music therapy methods such as improvisation, singing, holistic approach and the focus on building positive relationships with students are applied to her teaching and are found to be beneficial. Vivian currently provides Music Therapy services at Talk Read Grow Speech Therapy Clinic.

Additionally, she has experience singing in choirs including church choirs, the University Singers (Auckland University) and New Zealand Youth Choir. She still serves as a singer and accompanist at church choir and band. She is a Catholic music composer, and her work is published in South Korea.

She is fluent in Korean and English and can teach and facilitate therapy in both languages. As a mum of two young boys, she knows how to interact with children and how important it is to build a positive relationship with each student for better educational and therapeutic outcomes. She is passionate about making connections through music and is always searching for those sparkly eyes when making music!

Vivian is a professional member of QMTA, AMTA and holds a blue card for working with children.
